Organization

The organization behind the site: name, logo, URL and contact details.

How to use

Organization settings are the one place to enter facts about the organization that the site represents. Every page reuses them, so editors enter them once.

Why it matters for SEO

Search engines use the organization to understand who is behind the site. Google can show the logo, contact details and profile links in search results and in the knowledge panel. It also connects the site to the organization's profiles elsewhere. A complete and correct organization makes those features more likely and builds trust in the site's content.

Where it is used

  • Structured data. Every page publishes the organization as schema.org Organization JSON-LD.
  • Social sharing. The organization name is the site name (og:site_name) when a page is shared.

Nothing is shown on the page itself.

How to set it up

  1. Create Organization settings in the settings.
  2. Select them in the start page's Organization settings property.
  3. Fill in as many fields as apply to the organization.
  • Organization name (name): Required. Without it, no organization is published.
  • URL (url): Leave empty to use the site's URL.
  • Logo (logo): Use a square or wide logo that looks good on a white background.
  • Email (email)
  • Telephone (telephone): Include the country code, such as +46 8 123 456 78.
  • Same as (sameAs): Absolute URLs of the organization's profiles, such as LinkedIn, Wikipedia or Wikidata.
  • Street address, Postal code, City, Region (address)
  • Country (address.addressCountry): Written as a name; it is published as an ISO country code.

Structured data

Choose the correct organization type

Organization is the most general of many organization types. Use the most specific type that fits the client, such as Corporation, NGO, EducationalOrganization, GovernmentOrganization or a LocalBusiness subtype. The full list is under More specific Types at schema.org/Organization. Changing the type is a developer task in OrganizationSchema.

Add more properties

The organization type has many more properties than the ones filled in by default. Represent every property that applies to the client, such as legalName, alternateName, description, foundingDate, vatID, taxID, iso6523Code, duns or numberOfEmployees. Google lists the properties it uses in its Organization structured data guide. Adding a property is a developer task: add a field to the settings and map it in OrganizationSchema.

Check the result

Test a published page with Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator. Only content that also exists on the site or in public sources should be published as structured data.
